Unless you live under a rock then you’ve probably heard of the groundbreaking extended letter from Ta-Nehisi Coates to his adolescent son, Between the World and Me. Coates explores the ways black bodies have been broken down mentally and physically as he poses the questions that burned in his mind as a child that he now hopes to answer for his son. Through his personal narrative, Coates finally reaches the truth about his existence in a world that is built on race.
I have been studying Afrofuturism in literature for the past year, and I have come across many mind blowing texts. I have learned so much this past year. It has shown me who I am and revealed my own biases to me. I have been fascinated in the way that theories have given language to my feelings.. Literature is one of the most awakening, blissful tools that exists. It is a direct path to knowledge. I will never take it for granted.
